Young @ Heart
Young @ Heart, directed by Stephen Walker is just full of lively and joyful elders. This chorus consists of 24 grandparents with the average age of 80 years old. Their hometown is North Hampton Massachusetts. The director of the group is a middle aged man named Bob Cilman. These elders perform songs from Beatles to Trash. Although they perform alternative rock songs, many have mentioned that they like classical and opera music.
I really enjoyed watching this film. It captivated me the whole 1 hour and 49 minutes. It is very inspiring to see how these elders have such a big heart. This group goes all over the world just to perform and show people what they’re all about. In addition, they could careless of what people say because they know that they’re making a difference. Their performance is just a true act of service. Their service is not partial, but whole heartedly offered towards all types of audience. No wonder they had such a huge crowd at the big performance day.
They are very enthusiastic and committed to what they do. Even if an unfortunate event happens, such as a fellow member passes away, they continue to live on and be strong for one another. Their chorus is one of the top priorities on their list. They very well touch so many communities and lives, thus giving individuals an altered perspective among elders. I was truly encouraged by this film, just by seeing all their energy and persistence even if the song was quite difficult for them or that they disliked the song.
Each of their characters brings about a bright light. You can notice that they truly are “young at heart” and that they have an excitement for learning new things. This film just brought joy to my heart and at times made me think how cute elders are. I watched this film in my dorm when my roommates where gone and it even got me stomping and snapping my fingers during their grand performance. There was honestly a positive message to this that everyone can take. Not only to respect and never underestimate elders, but also to live life to the fullest.
